SOCIALIST REALISM
This art style has a strong
connection with the Socialist propaganda and
revolutionary ideology. This art is highly developed
in DPRK as it is part of daily life, mainly
in the form of posters in streets, schools,
cinemas, and official buildings. Mediums vary
from poster paint on paper, oil paint on canvas,
woodblock, to traditional Korean ink wash with
water colour and reduced gouache. Also below
is an example of a handpainted poster image
scanned and printed on plasticised material
and lit at night. This method is replacing some
handpainted billboards some of which had illumination
at night from electric lamps.

revolutionary movies. Original handpainted posters,
and printed bilingual posters for international

| PAINTINGS
are more refined and have a closer relation to
the traditional Korean style. In North Korea these
are called Korean Fine Arts or Juje
Hua (thematic paintings). Each comes with
a letter from the DPRK art institute to guarantee
its providence and is signed by the artist. |
